Before I get started with all the music history let’s do a birthday shout out to Daryl Hall, who is turning the big 7-oh.

Let’s start on “The Ed Sullivan Show” on this day in 1964 with special guest Roy Orbison singing “Oh, Pretty Woman.

It’s truly one of the great songs of all time, but not a #1 on Billboard. It was on this day in 1971 that John Lennon released the single “Imagine” in North America. Rolling Stone magazine ranked “Imagine” #3 in their “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

It was on this day in 1975 that “Saturday Night Live,” made its debut. George Carlin was the first guest host and  the musical guest was Janis Ian, who performed her hit “At Seventeen.”

Beach Boy Brian Wilson joined Jimmy Buffett on stage on this day in 1998  to perform “Surfin’ U.S.A.” and “California Girls.”

“Rockin'” Rod Stewart got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on this day in 2005.
